The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur were also present at the Vatican Synod on the Amazon this October. Sisters Pat O'Brien and Maureen White from the Congregational Leadership Team based in Rome and Sisters Sandra Araujo dos Santos and Rebeca
Spires from Brazil participated in the week long long assembly of people from the Amazon and other parts of the world during the Synod. This gathering was situated near Saint Peter's Square in the Vatican and offered offered complementary activities to the Synod in the form of prayer, celebrations and discussions. In addition to participating in those activities, Sisters Maureen, Pat, Rebeca and Sandra gave four presentations sharing Sister Dorothy's ministry as a Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur serving in the Amazon. These presentations took place in churches, a monastery and in a joint celebration at the SNDdeN Generalate in Rome with the Good Shepherd Sisters.
In the United States, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Joan Krimm and Rita Raboin each shared their insights on Sister Dorothy to sisters from different parts of the world at two webinars hosted by the International Committee of Superiors General.
The Care of Creation is a matter of great importance in Notre Dame de Namur and in the world. What a blessing it was to be able to share Sister Dorothy's story and to join with others to honor the people and land of the Amazon and the care of the earth.
Next year marks the 15th anniversary since Sister Dorothy Stang's murder. In the US, we will remember Sister Dorothy throughout the year using the theme - Her legacy lives on in us. Please keep an eye out for ways that you can participate and encourage others to join in this remembrance, which will begin on February 12, 2020.
