To adapt to the needs of many communities, members pivoted their daily activities to include addressing food security and distributed over 500,000 pounds of food to families in need! What’s even more impressive than the impact numbers is the rich connections members have made across the country and the personal growth they’ve experienced. This year placed extra emphasis on community and stretched staff and members alike to find new ways to build it such as masked outdoor gatherings, virtual game nights and book clubs to name a few. Despite all the screen time from teams meeting on Zoom, serving remotely and going to the virtual mid-year conference, members persevered and made the most of their time. They shared that they experienced a strong team climate thanks to their Site Director and that they felt they were truly making a difference through their service. A member serving in Bend, Oregon reflected on the impact of their year sharing, “I’ve learned that despite challenges with COVID, there are still so many people that are excited and willing to make things happen. I’ve learned to listen to myself and to use my voice.”
