The celebration began with a joyful liturgy officiated by Rev. Monsignor James A. Shanley. Julie House Administrator Dina Karvelis, AND, offered a warm welcome and with Sister Ellen Agritelley at the keyboard, Mary Dean, niece of Sister Madeline McAdam, served as cantor.
Following Rev. Shanley’s homily, Sister Elaine Bain, representing Province leadership, began the lighting of the Jubilarians’ vow candles. Along with the six from Julie House, 60 years: Sisters Mary Rose Crowley, Marilyn Pechillo; 70 years: Sisters Marion Cotty, Madeline McAdam; 75 years: Sisters Linette Doucette and Julie Edwina Tucker; were eight other Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur from the New England area: 60 years, Sisters Marietta Brown, Rosemary Fay, Paul St. Katherine Murphy, Catherine O’Brien, and Judy Ward; 70 years, Sisters Madeline Carrabino, Mary Therese Flattery, and Jane McAndrews. In unison the sisters renewed their vows after which all the sisters present stood and proclaimed their prayerful support. Then a full chorus of “Ah! God is Good!” echoed throughout the hall. Mass continued and culminated with the closing hymn, “Joyful, Joyful”. Indeed it was a joyful Jubilee!
The celebration moved upstairs to the dining area with a scrumptious meal provided by Maneeley’s Catering. Everyone lingered on, enjoying not only the wonderful food but the sweet taste of a well celebrated Jubilee!
