While this year’s conference was held in Chicago, Mary chose to receive her award via Zoom with our community in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Sister Elaine Bain set up the technology so that we could see the liturgy and award presentation on our TV.
In presenting the award, Sister Ellen Dauwer, SC, Executive Director of the RFC, said, “Mary, your commitment to and passion for religious life has always been evident to me and to all who have heard you speak and read your writings. You have helped to form formators, teachers, leaders, and members at large of many congregations. You have touched past and current generations of religious and have planted the seeds of hope in all of us for future generations as well.”
Mary said that she was that thrilled to receive this award and added, “It’s been such a privilege to be part of the journey of RFC for many years and to see its growth and its gift to religious life and the world.” She further challenged the RFC to “continue to help all of us anticipate a Synodal Church” and proposed this question: “What curriculum do we need to form new members and to form and re-form older members?”
We were honored to share in this occasion with Mary and made our own presentation of a colorful autumn plant and congratulatory card.
