Using Saint Julie as the theme for a concert originated when Choral Director Elizabeth Sullivan Venia saw “May 13, the Beatification of St. Julie,” on Mount Notre Dame’s school calendar. She searched the Congregation’s website for inspiration, found hundreds of Julie’s quotes and chose sixty. Each student read the quotes, picked her favorite five, told the significance of each and chose a word to describe the quote. Using the quotes receiving the most votes, Elizabeth searched MND’s music archives for music that fit the words students gave to describe the quotes. “Since MND has been around since 1860,” Elizabeth said, “I had a large library of music from which to choose!”
Here are the Saint Julie themes and songs related to them:
1. Peace and love – Deep Peace and Wondrous Love
2. The Holy Cross – How Beautiful - He was Despised
3. Courage/Resilience/Perseverance – I Lift My Eyes - Didn’t My Lord Deliver
4. Unity – The Dream Keeper - I Dream a World from Trilogy of Dreams
5. The Holy Spirit – I Will Sing with the Spirit - Gonna Rise Up Singing
6. How Good is the Good God – Ah! Qu’il est bon, le bon Dieu by Sister Kathleen Harmon - All Good Gifts from Godspell
The students deepened their appreciation for Saint Julie’s wisdom and the grandparents thoroughly enjoyed watching their granddaughters perform in such a beautiful concert.
