Our schools vary widely in how they are responding to the pandemic. All our California schools are using distance learning exclusively for now with no students on campus. All our Notre Dame connected schools in Ohio, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania have opened the doors to students with the option of distance learning for those who are most vulnerable or whose parents prefer to keep them at home. Some of the schools are staggering the days that students are on campus. Should any member of a school community contract the virus, contact tracing will determine which part of the school will close or switch to distance learning for the requisite quarantine time.
The school opening dates range from late August through mid- September depending on the local districts. Emmanuel College and Trinity Washington University are both using distance learning exclusively with their dorms and campuses closed to students.
The number of people who have taken part in the decisions for each school, including administration, faculty, staff, students, parents and boards, and the amount of correspondence involved with keeping everyone in the communication loop has been epic. Let us pray for a safe school year for everyone!
